It’s been almost six years now that Jordan Joumon gets to call the tranquil village of Albion home. By day, he is dedicated to his role within a local eyewear brand, but by night, he immerses himself into the cosmos as an amateur astronomer and astrophotographer.

Jordan’s love affair with astronomy began in his childhood, delving into books and encyclopaedias. Self-taught and curious, his fascination with the unknown of the Universe only deepened over the years.

The west coast of Mauritius, with its minimal light pollution, offers Jordan the perfect vantage point to observe the night skies. Carefully planning his evenings around lunar cycles and weather conditions, he captures breathtaking images of celestial bodies from the comfort of his home. Passionate about sharing his love for astronomy, he frequently hosts public events and private sessions, inviting others to join him in the surreal experience of stargazing.

While he’s certainly encountered numerous challenges such as the high cost of equipment and limited local infrastructure, Jordan’s passion for astronomy drives him to make it accessible for everyone. He aims to build a small observatory on his rooftop and create an astronomy club for enthusiasts of all ages. Jordan’s initiatives are a step towards inspiring Mauritians to gaze upward and marvel at the wonders the Universe has to offer.
