For the second year in a row, Cascavelle Business Park proudly served as the Silver Sponsor of the queen stage of the Tour de Maurice and hosted the ceremonial start of the race. Dive into the highlights of this prestigious competition, known as the Grand Prix The West & Velogic, renowned for attracting enthusiasts from Mauritius and beyond.

On Thursday June 13th, cyclists braved the winds and got back on the saddle to conquer the pivotal stage of the Tour de Maurice. The neutral start of the race – ensuring a safe group beginning within urban confines before the challenging journey ahead – was once again held at Cascavelle Business Park this year, much to the delight of local residents and businesses.

Established in 1980, the Tour de Maurice – a four-stage competition across the island – is organised by the Mauritius Cycling Federation, and has become a prominent fixture on the UCI Africa Tour calendar as a category 2.2 event since 2023. Televised internationally, this semi-professional race now in its 43rd edition, covers 350 kilometres with competitive teams of five riders hailing from countries as far-reaching as Austria, Germany, and South Africa. Alongside these international contenders, the race also featured four national teams, bringing the total number of participants to over 115.

Cascavelle Business Park, Silver Sponsor of the queen stage

For the second year running, Cascavelle Business Park has not only been the proud sponsor of the third stage of the Grand Prix The West & Velogic, but also handled logistics and provided refreshments to cyclists before the thrilling race. Cascavelle Business Park set up the starting podium and welcomed all participants with a warm breakfast of coffee and pastries, while they mingled with spectators before gearing up for their race. And while the shaky weather was an unwelcome guest, it did very little to dampen the spirit of cyclists and spectators alike.

Meanwhile, tenants of Cascavelle Business Park had the privilege of witnessing preparations for the race firsthand; not only did they get to live the vibrant pre-race buzz but also had a frontrow experience of watching the cyclists depart on race day. Edgar Julienne, Senior Development Manager of Medine's real estate department, reflected on the event: "Witnessing teams from around the world compete – including professional ones like the Austrian squad, who were the winners of this stage – was truly exceptional and a real privilege for us and our tenants as well! What an inspiration it was to partake in the excitement and witness such a prominent event of the Mauritian sports calendar."

Following the success of this second edition, Cascavelle Business Park is already gearing up for next year’s race with ambitions to exceed this year’s achievements–a mindset not too different from the cyclists themselves!
