From October 11 to 13, 2024, The West will gear up once again to host the Colin Mayer Tour, an unmissable mountain biking event that’s known to attract cycling enthusiasts from new and far. In fact, riders from all over will come together to experience the thrill of racing through this vibrant region, where high energy, togetherness and the drive to push personal boundaries take centre stage.
Named in honour of the renowned Mauritian cyclist, the Colin Mayer Tour is much more than just a race! Since 2016, it has been a must-attend event that takes place amidst breathtaking landscapes of the West Coast, bringing together mountain biking enthusiasts and nature lovers year after year.
Over the course of three thrilling days, participants will tackle an array of challenging trails, weaving through forests, sugarcane fields, mountainous areas, and even salt flats and beaches, all while soaking in spectacular views.
A standout feature of the race remains how the youngest riders are given their moment in the spotlight with a dedicated kids’ race, offering them a fun and memorable mountain biking experience in a friendly and welcoming setting.
This year however, the event promises a new exciting addition: a category for women over 50 (Master 3 women). This new step highlights the Colin Mayer Tour’s commitment to creating a truly inclusive competition, where riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome to participate.
SPARC: a key partner of the Colin Mayer Tour
For the 2024 edition, hundreds of participants, both local and international, are expected to take part, with a significant presence from South African and Réunionese riders, a real testament of the international appeal that the race has garnered over time!
For the second year running, SPARC will play a pivotal role in the Colin Mayer Tour. Strategically and ideally located at the heart of Cascavelle, this renowned sports centre of the West stands tall as a key contributor to the event, offering modern facilities aptly suited to the needs of the participants.
SPARC, playing host of the Race Village for fifth year in a row, will once again become the beating heart of the Colin Mayer Tour. Going beyond just a gathering point, this space plans to be the go-to spot for athletes, teams, and supporters looking to connect, relax, and enjoy the race’s warm, welcoming atmosphere.
Highlights of the Colin Mayer Tour
Le Colin Mayer Tour 2024 will unfold over what promises to be three intense yet exhilarating days, from Friday October 11 to Sunday October 13, and will be divided in teams of two riders pushing their limits and covering a combined distance of 160 km across challenging terrains.
The first leg of the race will kick off at SPARC on Friday October 11 with a 60km technical course specifically designed for riders to familiarise themselves with the diverse trails of the West.
