Ah, the West—its magnificent landscapes, its turquoise lagoon, its fine sandy beaches, its pleasant climate year-round, its cultural diversity, its eclectic cuisine—there are so many aspects to this region that make it an El Dorado for many Mauritians and expatriates alike. The West offers a lifestyle that combines the facilities of an urban region with the pleasures of a daily routine lived between land and sea.

A peaceful atmosphere pervades this unique region. The West has a sense that it is open to the world, although it is firmly and proudly rooted in Mauritian culture. Mauritians and expatriates live harmoniously, meeting on the beaches and at festive events. The West is renowned as a destination that combines everything one could wish for in terms of a balanced lifestyle with the added benefit of its magnificent sunsets—a glorious display to enjoy at the end of every day.

A pleasant climate all year round

Protected from the prevailing winds, the western region of the island is deservedly popular. A pleasant climate year-round ensures that even winter will not dampen the enthusiasm of outdoor adventurers or lovers of sea and water activities! The water temperature in West Mauritius is significantly warmer than in other regions, whatever the season, so it is unsurprising that visitors flock here during the winter to recharge their batteries with a day in the sun and a swim in the sea.

Activities to suit all tastes

One thing is certain: if you decide to build a life in the West, you will never be bored! The region is brimming with all kinds of activities, and beautiful landscapes invite you to explore on foot or by bike. The region is particularly attractive to mountain bikers, with numerous trails from Flic-en-Flac to Le Morne, via the Yemen Nature Reserve. Spread over 3,400 hectares of wilderness, this reserve is the largest of its kind in Mauritius.

The West is also home to one of the most popular parks in Mauritius: spread over 350 hectares, Casela offers a wide variety of experiences. Ranging from activities for thrill-seekers to an African safari, with the opportunity to interact with trained big cats, the park is also the ideal place for a day of discovery with little ones, who can pet and feed the animals in the park’s farm. There is something for children of all ages to enjoy at Casela!

If we're talking about the West, the beach at Flic-en-Flac definitely deserves a mention: turquoise waters, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs… For the surfing fans, head for Tamarin Bay, famous for its surf break and the dolphins that visit daily.

Golfers of all levels will also find the region meets their needs with a superb 18-hole course. The Tamarina Golf Club has breathtaking views of the sublime Rempart Mountain and Tamarin Bay. The course’s Club House will offer a warm welcome, and the regulars will undoubtedly invite you to discover the restaurant and its international cuisine prepared with a distinctively Mauritian touch.

A convenient and connected region

Although the West of Mauritius offers a real sense of disconnection from the stresses of modern life, the region offers excellent connections to the country’s bustling centres.  Two major roads – one to Port Louis, the capital, and the other to Phoenix, one of Mauritius’ busiest commercial regions – will soon be joined by an additional road linking the west to the centre, which is due for completion shortly.

Currently, in full expansion mode – the Medine Group's smart city is a notable addition – the West is also synonymous with dynamism. The region complements a wide range of properties – from sea-view villas to flats, luxury penthouses and family duplexes – with all the amenities residents could desire. From shopping centres with supermarkets and boutiques to convenient local shops and a growing business centre – Cascavelle Business Park –, the West offers all the facilities everyday life demands.

The West is not only an ideal place for regular outdoor physical activity year-round, but also offers an excellent sports centre: SPARC.

Families will find West Mauritius offers excellent educational prospects from primary to university level, with students welcomed from all over the world. The West is an ideal location for those looking to integrate with the local community – something that’s especially easy for children who settle here with their families. New friends will soon be found at school and through the many activities offered in the region.

Living in West Mauritius offers you all this — and much more! If a peaceful yet dynamic region sounds like the perfect place to build the life you want, look no further!
