Wondering if this school is the right fit for you? Read on and find out!

Looking for an excellent school close to home?

With the École et Collège de l’Ouest, UIEH strengthens its role as a key educational hub while offering a convenient option for families living between Tamarina and Pointe aux Sables. If you’re based in Albion, Bambous, Beaux Songes, Cascavelle, Chebel, Flic en Flac, Gros Cailloux, Petite Rivière, Pierrefonds, Quatre Bornes, Pointe aux Sables, or Roches Brunes, this could be the perfect choice for your child.

As early as August 2025, the primary school will welcome students from Grande Section Maternelle (GSM) to CM2, ensuring a strong educational foundation for enrolled children. What’s even better though, is that the collège will also be on site, providing a seamless transition for students from École Paul & Virginie and the surrounding region.

Looking for a proven educational approach?

The École et Collège de l’Ouest draw on the expertise of École du Centre/Collège Pierre Poivre and École Paul & Virginie, institutions with decades of experience in French curriculum education in Mauritius. Following the spiral learning method of the French National Education system, the school encourages critical thinking and autonomy, ensuring students gain a deep understanding of subjects rather than just memorizing concepts.

Beyond academics, the French curriculum places a strong emphasis on general knowledge and project-based learning, giving students a meaningful and well-rounded education. A well-stocked library fosters a love for reading and cultural discovery, while art, music, and singing classes nurture creativity. The school will also welcome local artists to share their expertise and passion with students.

And because a well-rounded education includes physical activity, both schools offer a diverse sports programme, promoting teamwork, perseverance, and healthy competition for those who enjoy it. A curriculum that is a balanced blend of academics, culture, and well-being designed to help every child thrive.

Looking for a student-focused approach?

At École et Collège de l’Ouest, students are at the heart of everything. Instead of traditional grading systems, assessments focus on skill acquisition, categorising progress as acquired, in progress, or not yet acquired, fostering a supportive and personalized learning experience. Numerical grading is introduced gradually in secondary school.

Students with specific learning needs receive tailored support, designed in close collaboration with families. The teaching staff is trained in inclusive practices, ensuring that every student benefits from an adapted and encouraging environment.

With inclusivity as a core value, academic excellence, kindness, educational continuity, and strong Mauritian and family values as also etched into the ethos of the school: an approach that ensures your child’s development and success in every way.

Looking for a French school with a strong Mauritian identity?

As non-profit institutions, the École et Collège de l’Ouest are committed to expanding and strengthening the network of French curriculum schools in Mauritius. From the start, both schools will work towards obtaining official accreditation from the French Ministry of Education.

While the school follows a French curriculum, it is focused on being firmly rooted in Mauritian culture and realities. A portion of general subjects will be taught in English, ensuring an organic bilingualism for students from an early age. The bilingual French-English program is aligned with the UK’s National Curriculum, offering an added advantage for students that are preparing for a multicultural and multilingual future. At the secondary level, students will also have the option to follow the International Bilingual Section (French/English).
